This is going to sound like a cheat but I’ve had so many requests to re-issue the The Ultimate BBQ Mix from July 2010 that I’ve bowed to popular demand and rather than start a new one for 2011, I’m going to repost last year’s. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix” it as my grandmother used to say. Well, she didn’t really. But you know what I mean.

So for Claire, Anna, Ned, Ahmed, Patrick, the Williams twins, Noggin, Big Phil and many others, here’s the Ulimate Barbeque Mix for 2010-2011 – enjoy!

I just made my daily trip to MetaFilter and came across a thread on Listening Room:

WELCOME! Listening Room is a website for listening to music with your friends. Anyone in a room can play mp3s from their computer, and everyone hears the same thing at the same time.

The site’s having a few temporary problems at the moment but what say you we name a day/time and have an hour’s communal listening?

Well here is the mix I finally settled on, a bit of something for everyone – hope you enjoy.

[01] Frank Zappa – Flakes (a flake is an unreliable person) [Sheik Yerbouti]
You didn’t think you would get away without a Zappa song did you? This is one of my favorite songs from Zappa and I just love the lyrics.

[02] Urban Trapeze – Urban trapeze (available in the UK soon) [Reactivated Tarkus]
I chose this because they are my friends and they are good, the music is great and the band are incredible live.

[03] Ween – Voodoo Lady [Chocolate and Cheese] [album cover is NSFW]
This I chose because it is a great song and a tribute to Jimi Hendrix, I really like the lyrics to this song and the wacked out guitar.

[04] Mago De Oz – Vodka & Roll [Gaia III Atlantia]
This one is for all you hard rock alkies. This is great rock and celtic fusion and I like the way they make it work.

[05] Peter Frampton – Show me the way [Show me the way]
This one I chose for the lyrics and great guitar. Frampton has always been one of my favorite guitarists and I love his use of the voice box.

[06] Triana – Se de un lugar [El Patio]
Being the Floyd of Spain I had to include this, the song brings back many good memories for me and the fusion of flamenco and rock is just brilliant.

[07] Free – Alright Now [The best of Free]
This one should bring back some memories, it does for me. I love the riff and the lyrics from this, one of my favorite rock songs.

[08] Extremoduro – Lo De Dentro [Ley Innata]
This song is especially for LD, hope you enjoy. The music is just amazing rock and it’s hard not to enjoy it.

[09] Jace Everet – Bad Things [Red Revelations]
The opening song for True Blood, my favorite TV show, and a great song I just love the lyrics.

[10] No Doubt – Don’t Speak [Tragic Kingdom]
I always liked this song and the lyrics are great again – one of my all time favorites.

[11] Amparanoia – Que te Den [El Poder De Machin]
A fantastic Spanish artist with great rhythm and style and great lyrics if you understand Spanish.

[12] Manu Chao – Bongo Bong [Clandestino]
One of my favorite songs from this artist, I have used it busking many times on the coast of Spain.

[13] Parliament – Give up the Funk [The Best Of Parliament]
This has to be for me one of the best Funk bands in the world and I just love the lyrics.

[14] Dr John – Right Place Wrong Time [In The Right Place]
Because he is just great, his music is amazing and he sits next to Zappa on a musical level for me, although his music is different .

[15] US3 – Cantaloop [Hand On The Torch]
A great fusion of hiphop and jazz, this song brings back a lot of memories as well – I found the album in Ireland, heard it, liked it, bought it and have never grown tired of hearing it.

[16] Fela Kuti – Sorrow, Tears & Blood [Opposite People]
Nigeria’s best artist and the inventor of afrobeat – my all time favorite African musician. If you would like to know more start here with Music Is The Weapon.

[17] Oliver Mtukudzi – Ndakuvara [The Tuku Years]
Zimbabwe’s most loved artist and an amazing guitarist, I grew up listening to him every morning and I still like his music.

[18] Black Eyed Peas – Where Is The Love [Elephunk]
This song I chose because the lyrics are very powerful and beautiful and I have liked the Black Eyed Peas for many years, especially their early stuff.

[19] Damien Marley – No No No [Eve-Olution]
One of my all time favorite songs, I love the female vocals by Eve. I was given this song on a select mix of Damien’s music but it was originally released by Eve.

[20] Max Romeo & The Upsetters – I Chase The Devil [War Ina Babylon]
This has to be the most famous reggae song as it has been mixed by many djs and has even been used by the Prodigy. I love it – the lyrics are some of the best ever.

“NOWHERE, JAZZ QUINTET”

EN NINGÚN LUGAR (2008)

The “Nowhere Jazz Quintet” is a brilliant Jazz band from Bogota in Colombia with the exception of Pavel, he’s Cuban. The music is composed by the drummer Juan Camilo Anzola Caro (who has done an interview with me to be posted at a later date). The Piano player is really good too and the sax and trumpet are just beautiful and the bass keeps a great rhythm. Watch the videos once, the second time do it with your eyes closed and tell me if these are not great jazz musicians.  All in all a top class Jazz Band or Quintet.

Hello pop pickers… and welcome to BBC Three.

The last mix in our short triology of all the best from the vaults of the BBC – I’m still amazed and impressed with the quality of these sessions, the BBC should be congratulated.

In the mix we start with some lovely guitar from Dire Straits and Robert Cray and end with two very old tracks from ELO and Floyd. In the middle you get some John Martyn, Yardbirds and a great version of Jeepster from Marc Bolan. You may also notice quite a lot of chatter from the DJ’s which almost transports you back in time, especially with (I think) Johnnie Walker chatting about “popping off to the boozer” with The Yardbirds (classic).

Again, hope you enjoy and please remember if you like the song there’s a very good chance that you’ll love the album, so please buy – I reckon dear old Aunty Beeb could do with the extra funds these days.

In this post i would like to introduce you to some of the best Spanish rock bands ever . I have chosen what are for me 3 of the best

The first Triana known as the Pink Floyd of spain Triana are a group from Sevilla in spain named after the neighborhood they come from , there music is a fusion of flamenco and rock and are probably the most loved of all spanish rock groups . The artists are now unfortunately all dead but there music lives on

From there album The Patio here is one of there most famous songs

Abre La Puerta (open the door)

The second Group is Mago De Oz a band started in Madrid by the drummer                            Txus Di fellatio this group is famed for there fusion of celtic and rock music  i have chosen one of my favorite tracks from there album Gaia III Atlantia

Fuerza y Honor (strength and honor)

The third Extremoduro a great rock group from Placencia in Extremadura Spain , there music is best described as symphonic or transgressive rock and i have chosen there latest album La Ley Innata

El Sueño(the dream)

All of these bands have been influenced by British and American rock , but have produced there own styles to create great spanish rock . Even if you don’t understand the words the music is international and of the best quality .

This has to be the best rock band ever from Zimbabwe, now based in London this band has been selling out at large venues across the UK including The Edinburgh Fringe Festival. With great rock riffs and an African beat this group is a force to be reckoned with on the music scene.
