Sorry for going all Star Wars on yo’ asses, but I believe we have a solution. After a chat with MFTM’s founder, Laughing Dog, it’s been agreed that the site needn’t fade away. Instead, my virtual friends and I are taking the reins to keep the spirit alive.

Browsing in my local Virgin last weekend I heard this song been played. Me thinks ‘mmm this ain’t bad’ – so offs I go to ask the lovely young assistant what it is. He guides me to these two albums by Slaves to Gravity.

and

I checked what they say about these guys on Amazon – mmm eight 5 stars… mmm… cant be bad. So I buy both albums 120 riyals of my hard earned cash.

and guess what?

I wouldn’t say they were crap but out of 25 songs I would say I like maybe 4 or 5.

What am I saying in this rant? The problem with albums these days is not them but me. Cos I know 10 years ago I would have loved this album. 10 years ago I would have played and played it and enjoyed it over and over again.

So what’s wrong with me?

They’re a bright band with some good songs, a good sound (maybe a bit pretty-boyish) but hey we can’t all be ugly!

What I don’t like is the fact that I don’t like many albums I now buy. I used to love buying albums, the thrill… oh the thrill of opening that cellophane wrapper, plonking the CD inside your hi-fi and watching it glide into that lovely dark hole while you sit back relax and @#%$#@&%^$#$ into musical heaven.

So what’s wrong with me?

I have over 133gb of music in my itunes library, over 20,000 songs that would take me 64.3 days to play. Then why do I suddenly click on this album and play it 3 times in a row, plonk it on my iphone and play it over and over and over at work?

Quite simple really – it’s bloody marvelous.

It’s full of well crafted songs, played by a bunch of guys that should now be millionaires, a bunch of guys with talent led by former World Party member Steve McEwan. They were actually an English rock band based out of London. With Peter Clarke – bass, Matthew Crozer – guitar and Tim Bye – drums. They made a sound grounded in solid musical grooves – in fact they didn’t do much wrong – they just never made it.

How sad is that?

Matthew teaches English
Tim sells Insurance and
Steve is a lollipop man.
