I was recently having dinner with my good lady and we spent an enjoyable, burgundy-fuelled hour or so discussing who (dead or alive) would be in our ultimate band. The results were as follows:
Her -
Vocals/ frontman: Kelly Jones
Guitar: Jimi Hendrix
Bass: Flea
Keyboards: Matt Bellamy
Drums: Keith Moon
Me -
Vocals/ frontman: Freddie Mercury
Guitar: David Gilmour
Bass: Jack Bruce
Keyboards: Steve Winwood
Drums: Jon Bonham
So….. who would your ‘supergroup’ be?
good one Techy
for me it woul have to be
Vocals : Freddie Mercury
Guitar : Frank Zappa (must have seen this comming)
Bass : Pepe Bao (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NguIYCpNrZY&feature=related)
Keybords : George Duke
Drums : Terry Bozzio
there would be alot more instruments and musicians but this would be the base
Give me your whole band Bert – I was just kicking things off. If you want a full orchestra or a woodwind section, go for it……
Vocals: Roger Daltrey
Guitar: Pete Townshend
Bass: John Entwistle
Drums: Keith Moon
Vocals – Curtis Mayfield
Lead Guitar – Jimmy Page
Rhythm Guitar – Scott Gorham
Bass – John Entwistle
Keyboard – Freddie Mercury (could share some of the singing)
Sax – Andy Mackay
Ondes Martenez – Christine Ott
backing Vocals – Judie Tzuke, Shea Seger, Aretha Franklin, Annie Lennox and the Dowlais Male Voice Choir
Thanks Techy – great discussion
Let me try that again:
Vocals: Robert Plant
Guitar: Jimmy Page
Bass: John Paul Jones
Drums: John Bonham
Mmh, mine would be some sort of big band, I guess:
Vocals / percussion: Danny Elfman and possibly Chris Cornell
Guitars: Jimmy Page and Stevie Ray Vaughan
Bass: Tony Levin
Brass section: Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Didier Malherbe
Piano: Oscar Peterson
Drums: Dave Abbruzesse or Danny Carey
Back up: The Mills Brothers
Vibraphone: Bobby Hutcherson
And finally myself on the BeerBottleOrgan, Spacey on the Vuvuzela and Uncle RaveDave on the Martenot. LZ can do the cow bells and I’m sure Ken would be delighted to join us with his Triangle. Maybe a pot and a wooden spoon would do, come to think of it.
LD, Techy, Cheezy & Bert can do the barber shop quartet chorus lines.
Funnily enough, this does remind me of some of the bands I used to play with (:
Great stuff – LD – I actually thought of having Freddie Mercury on piano, so that he could help out Chris Rea with vocal duties in my superband…. choosing a guitarist was a nightmare….
Spiggy – imagine us lot forming a band!!!! Great fun and no doubt very messy!
Yep – revision time… or an under-handed means of cramming in more great artists….
Vocals: Chris Rea
Lead Guitar: David Gilmour
Rhythm Guitar: Steve Winwood
Piano: Freddie Mercury
Keyboards: Richard Wright
Bass: Jack Bruce
Drums: John Bonham
Percussion: Ginger Baker
Backing Singers: Sinead O’Connor, Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush
Saxophone: Dick Parry
Trumpet: Louis Armstrong
Obviously, during live performances the band would be free to interchange vocal and instrument-playing duties……
The only way I found to improve my band was to add Tom Waits as a vocalist. Other than that there are simply no flaws in this constellation. Get the cow bells out, lil’ sis!
Hi Spiggy – Tom Waits I understand please explain Chris Cornell
I’m with Spiggy – I think Chris Cornell has an incredible voice…. and I shall prove it in due course…..
If you want a taster, have a listen to ‘Birth Ritual’ on the ‘Singles Soundtrack’ or ‘Say Hello To Heaven’ on ‘Temple Of The Dog’……
