I’ll be doing an unexpected radio show tomorrow night (Wednesday 18th August).
Laughing Dog asked me to post a ‘BBQ mix’ recently, but I’ve not had time, so as an alternative, I’ll play a few songs from a playlist that I put together for a forthcoming back garden extravaganza. The majority of the show will be completely off the cuff though.
Tune in if you can:
Wednesday 18th August – 7.30pm (UK time)

Yay Im downloading it now and will be playing it in 5 minutes i cant wait
Hope it’s enjoyable as last night – I’d had several glasses of wine, so it gave eveything a rosy glow – it shows a bit in my commentary, I’m guessing!
Sorry we couldn’t join you guys last night. I had to spend Junior’s last night here with him before he headed back to the UK and another term of Uni, spacepiggy had to catch up with some work she has fallen behind with.
Looks like we missed another good one. I think Techy must be telepathic. It’s only in the last few days that spacepiggy has introduced me to Sarah Vaughan, and here she is on this playlist.
Quite a few other goodies in the mix, don’t worry we won’t miss the next one.
Hi Techy – looks yet another fantastic show, maybe even more varied than the last one. When will it be available to d/load?
FYI – just added the Growing Old Gracefully website to my blog roll on the right-hand side of the page.
Brilliant – thanks LD. It means that everyone can access the shows as they please. Perhaps I could still post individual songs on MTFM, if there is demand? I’d be happy to do this upon request – I know that much of the music that I play will be familiar to most of you anyway and that no doubt you already own most of it.
If you hear something that you like but are not familiar with, then I can always offer these as a download as means of introduction to the artist? Just an idea….
PS – In response to LD’s question, Wednesday’s show is now available to download…
Hi Techy – d/loaded and been listening to it for past 3 hours and 20 mins, really good, really really good what more can I say.
Does Elton know you’ve played Tiny Dancer twice in 2 weeks? He may want some royalties?
i have downloaded it as well and been listening to it most of the day
Brilliant show first class dj
Note to Techoflid
Excellent sequence of music, you exhibit (like Laughing Dog on prior mixes) an ability to create magical passages of music by selecting tracks throughout your radio show that work so well together. You have a truly wonderful feel for music ably demonstrated by the following segment from your last show:
Simple Man – Lynyrd Skynrd
Me & Bobby McGee – Janis Joplin
Let Your Love Flow – The Bellamy Brothers
Down To The River To Pray – Alison Krauss & The Union Station
Come On in My Kitchen Medley – Delaney & Bonnie
My Broken Heart – Noah & The Whale
Give it Away – Zero 7
Sinequanon – Hybrid
Fever (Adam Freeland Remix) – Sarah Vaughan
How wonderful are these songs separately, but together you have created excellence. I look forward to your next installment
Note to Laughing Dog
I have reviewed a new album by Christine Ott and will be sending it to you today for inclusion in your website.
Also, I have spent quite a considerable amount of time on your website over the past few days and I must remark how it has improved. It was good before, but I feel that you have enhanced the quality of the site via the new contributors, the discussions and of course the music, which is now better that ever. It is now one of my favoured websites.
On a personal level I can be quite a sensitive soul and I believe that you appear to have lost some of your spirit. I am concerned; as you appear not to be so active and when you do comment it lacks the vigor and vitality I so noticed a few months back. I hope all is well with you.
Hi Ken – agree with what you say about Techy’s shows and I look forward to receiving your review.
Thanks for your comments about MFTM and for your concern, but all is good.
Oh, that’s so nice… (: See LD, people care about you! No worries, Ken, he’s ok! He just needs a good spanking!
Spank me or Ken? Both maybe lol
Maybe you wanna be spanked by Ken?
Maybe…………………….is this Spacepig or Spacepiggy – I can never tell!!
This is Spacepiggy. Spacepig is tied up in my dungeon, screaming his lungs out. No worries, he’ll be back to you shortly (once I decide to untie him) to share his frustrations with you.
Thanks for your kind comments Ken – really appreciated. My radio shows tend to be instinctive and I do try and create passages of music that progress naturally. It works better if the music doesn’t change tempo or style to suddenly.
A friend of mine who’s a very accomplished DJ gave me some great advice. He taught me to add ‘paragraphs’ to long sets. These can be created in the form of a long outro, the applause at the end of a live song, or a quick natter on the microphone. These create a natural pause in the music, which offer up the chance of going somewhere different.
Again – I agree with Ken. I think MTFM is growing in stature daily. There has been a surge in great new posts in recent weeks, from LD’s brilliant BBC sessions, to Bert’s funk samples. Long may it continue. The more people that visit, the more interesting the site is going to be. It’s certainly one of my favourite sites and has far exceeded any of my expectations when I stumbled across it a few months ago.
