The BBC Mixes ~ BBC TWO

bbc two cover
Cover image by Orange Jar

Welcome to BBC Two, part 2 of 3 mixes specially designed to titivate your tonal taste buds with the very best from Aunty Beeb’s vaults.
This mix is a little heavier and weirder, which should make Mr. & Mrs. Spacepig grin a bit more manically than usual – I’ve even got a brainstorming Hawkwind track and 22 minutes and 7 seconds of Faust to end proceedings.

The rest of the mix ain’t so bad with the lovely Iron Maiden kicking things off, some old Queen, Ian Hunter and The Byrds in the middle plus a great version of Joe Jackson’s best track. As if that wasn’t enough we have Jimi jammin’ and Paice, Ashton and Lord telling us one of the biggest porkies ever. And of course no BBC mix would be complete without one of Cork’s finest – in fact, I reckon his BBC sessions to be amongst his best work.

Hope you enjoy, we had some great feedback from the first mix, so thanks for that and don’t forget the last BBC mix (BBC Three) will be available here on Friday 20th August. Don’t forget to buy the tracks you like.

Great mix LD. Love Joe Jackson. He did some great stuff.(I’m The Man/Jumping Jive/Breaking Us In Two/It’s Different For Girls/Stepping Out/Slow Song/Be My Number Two etc.
Good to hear early Queen.Much better than their later material, imo.
‘Trippy Byrds’-I havn’t heard that song in years. (I think it was banned on the radio, due to it’s supposed drugs reference).
I think i’ll have to put headphones on for Faust & Hawkwind.

Just watched Roman Polanski’s The Pianist. A harrowing & spellbinding film.I hope i can get to sleep.

Thanks LD – another great mix… particularly liking Joe Jackson (seems to be a popular choice here..), Jimi Hendrix and Motorhead’s version of Louie Louie…. and whilst really not a Maiden fan (or heavy metal generally) rather enjoyed Running Free too….

Cheesy – The Pianist is a wonderful film. I highly recommend the book too. It’s shocking in its frankness and I had tears in my eyes several times whilst reading it on the way in to work…

Another vote for The Pianist, superb film. Also recommend The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, both book and film: http://www.film4.com/reviews/2008/the-boy-in-the-striped-pyjamas
