Colosseum – Theme For A Reunion

colussuem
No time to fully review this album – but I need you to hear some of it…..just so good. Colosseum is a British progressive jazz-rock band formed in 1968 – John Peel was a big fan. This live album features the vocal talents of Chris Farlowe who still sounds in top form.

We talked a little this week about prog rock and how its not everyone’s ‘cup of tea’ – these guys I think will be liked by all

I’m not really sure that we should be discussing this band in the prog rock context . You’re earlier description, progressive jazz-rock is much more suitable I think. But let’s not worry too much about classifying them and just enjoy the music.

I don’t have this one, although I have a few of theirs and that includes the much earlier live one. Of course that one was recorded long before the new fangled recording techniques came about and it’s obvious by the difference in sound quality. Nevertheless. it still is highly listenable.

Colosseum were never thought of as fashionable or the ‘in’ sound, but they sure can rock when they want to.

I really enjoyed hearing these versions of both these songs, another one on the ‘to buy’ list.

Have I mentioned to you Mr D, my bank manager wants a word or two with you.

Okay, I’m not coming anywhere near this place for a month. I’ve gone from buying one cd a year to one a day and it ain’t funny. The webdev books budget has been blown on music and this latest? I’d never have heard of the damn thing until you shoved it in my face and now I absolutely love it and need to go add it to my basket and phew, it’s out of stock at Amazon. Thank goodness for that. Will add it to my “search on ebay” list and pray I find one ending at 3a.m. that no-one else bids for!

Nix that idea, it’s holding its price well on Fleabay. [Insert expletive here.]

Hi Spacey – first thing I apologize to your bank manager, but I’m afraid it ain’t going to stop me (or others here) with our rampant disregard for money – buy now pay later (or something like that).

You know me too well to know I don’t really recognize genres if it s good its good etc. but these guys are prog rock/jazz/blues whatever – they don’t play songs less than 5 minutes and don’t forget the ‘Valentyne Suite’ a song in 3 parts of epicness, Lost Angeles, Tanglewood ’63 – mmm good stuff
