Let’s create the ultimate BBQ Music Mix

bbq
Summer’s almost here -Tesco is stocking up on charcoal, lager and burgers, which must mean one thing – BBQ season is here.

So I thought it would be good to create the ultimate BBQ Music Mix – a playlist that one could play whenever you invite the neighbours and friends round and want to impress them with your taste in music.

The playlist will be around 5 hours long and will be a mix of classic tunes to tap your toes to, some tunes to boogie to and some tunes to chill out to at the end of the evening.

It can be any sort of musical genre – I just want great music.

The completed playlist will be available to download on 1st July

LZ: Sure ! But I wouldn’t be surprised if you and I are the only ones there (the only ones enjoying the music, at least) …

Not so, count me in too! As long as there’s plenty of beer I’ll be there.

Hey Mr LD – great idea

Heard these songs at a barbie last w/end – so I asked my friend to write down some of the songs – you would have loved it great food, great beer, great music and a rather nice young lady who wanted to get to know me better :-0

    The songs were

    Booker T – Green Onions
Bob Marley – no woman no cry
    Moby – Porcelain
    T rex – Jeepster
Its a kinda magic – Queen
    Sade – Smooth Operator
    St Germain – Rose Rouge

    Chicane – salt water
Thin Lizzy – Dancing in the moonlight
    Tom Jones – sex Bomb
    Chic – Good Times
    Simon & garfunkel – Cecillia

There was more……..but my friend lost the other bit of paper

Ok, so being as how I don’t have much “discretionary” time on my hand nowadays, I’ve had to SLO-O-O-OWLY start compiling my list of what, I figure, should be about 75 songs (to make up the 5 hours LD has suggested). I’ve been trolling my way through my CD song list, and this is what I’ve come up with so far; my search has been alphabtically through my song index, and I think I’ve got up to “H” so far. Plus a few out-of-alphabetical-sequence that sprang to my mind as I was searching. I will add others (much) (maybe MUCH) later as time permits, and will also try to sort them into “classic tunes to tap your toes to, some tunes to boogie to and some tunes to chill out to at the end of the evening” categories, as the Mad Hound has suggested. PS: there are also some singalong numbers, to irritate the neighbours and allow for the obligatory knocking over of the red wine glass ….

Anyhow, all that said, here’s my very unfinished, highly provisional, still-needs-a-lot-of-work offering for now:

Sun Is Shining – Bob Marley vs Funkstar De Luxe
More Than A Feeling – Boston
    Anchorage – Michelle Shocked
    Summertime – Shaggy

    La Grange – ZZ Top
    Ballroom Blitz – Sweet
    Beachball – Nalin and Kane
Blue Monday (Original 12”) – New Order
    Being Boiled – Human League
Suspicious Minds – Fine Young Cannibals
Nellie The Elephant – Toy Dolls
Colours – The Men They Couldn’t Hang
    Boomshackalak – Apache Indian

Hi URD – thanks for your suggestions, some good stuff here – some of which is already in the mix. Have a look at the Amazon discussion board where I’ve also been busy.

I have just put together a rough mix including most of the suggestions and I reckon I have around 19 hours of music – one hell of a BBQ. So I don’t reckon we need anymore music from you – save them til next year.
