May Mini Mix 2010

The May mini music mix cover is a black and white shot of a seagull flying on a dark background

The lovely album cover image is entitled “I want to break free” and it’s by Filipe Samora.

How does an old dog follow the greatest playlist one has ever produced (remember I reckon I peaked with May’s main music mix). Well, one does what you least expect and creates a MEGA MIX – a mix that is over 2 hours long and jam packed full of monster songs, gems from 40 years ago and some new diamonds – then I throw them all up in the air with total disregard for the flow of the tracks and press play. Wow – it’s music that will literally have you banging your bonce against your speaker – it’s that bloody good.

Can the old dog peak twice in one month? (Mrs. LD is smirking as I write…)

expired

The May Mini Mix has now expired but the latest mixes are now ready – go read all about them!

Please support the artists – if you like a track, go buy the album!

Haven’t time to listen to the whole mix yet, and Mrs SP wants to go to the pub, but track 2 is from Stray – Its All In Your Mind (much better than Iron Maiden’s version).

Track 5 is from Caravan. Can’t remember the name of it, but if I have to name the song to collect a bonus point I’ll have to go and dig out the CD.

And?? Rammstein!!!!!!!!!!! Du Hast – this is getting incredibly silly.

Will check the rest later – I need a pint after that!

  2. Laughing Dog says

Spacey – the Caravan song is ‘Winter Wine’, and apart from Du Hast (which is a great song to shag to) I reckon you will find a few more gems inside this months miniMEGA mix

  3. Sin again says

Mr. Dog u cant say shag on here can u? It is good though reckon i’ll try out this summer c if it works.
The rest of the mix is……well I don’t really know its just way too wacky with some funkyiness, some acoustic and some songs that last way tooooooo long and I don’t know a single track – how hopeless am I. Give me a few more days for my brain to calm down then it may all make sense

  4. Liefste zus says

Sinny, I don’t know a single track either! A few tracks are instant hits for me, the rest? Hmm… need to have another listen or two. Will be back to ask for info on some tracks so that I can wend my way to Amazon to add ‘em to the wishlist.

  5. Laughing Dog says

“Shag” – there I said it again

  6. Spacepig says

Just had another flick through the mix and I can’t believe that neither of you noticed Fleetwood Mac’s Green Manalishi on there. Possibly (probably) their greatest song ever in my own humble opinion.

Also noticed Eric Bibb’s One Soul to Save. Hey I’m doing not too bad here am I not?

Mrs SP has called out her Thursday night war cry (BEER) so I have to go, but fear not, I’m on a roll, I will try and identify some more later.

  7. Laughing Dog says

Hi Spacey – impressed you recognized Eric Bibb (Green was easy) what about tracks 4, 10, 14, 17? Pressure’s on!!

  8. CHEEZEPEEZE says

Somebody tell me what track 17 is? Pleeaase.

  9. Laughing Dog says

Hi Cheezepeeze – and welcome to musicforthemonth.com.

Track 17 is Rodrigo Y Gabriela with an amazing cover of Metallica’s ‘Orion’ – from their second self-titled album album which has an amazing 39 5 stars on Amazon.

What’s your opinion of the mini mix? Do you like not knowing the name of the band or artist?

  10. CHEEZEPEEZE says

    Hi Laughing Dog
Only skipped through it so far.i instantly liked tracks 17/7/9/10,of the ones i didn’t know.
It is fun to guess the artist, but i think at the months end,you should post the track list (if you don’t already) Otherwise how can we check out their music? is there a way to hear
previous months music,or have they now vanished into the ether?
    Best regards
    CHEEZEPEEZE

  11. Laughing Dog says

Hi Cheezepeeze – normally only post track names if people ask, but will do it very soon for you

Track 7 – David Ford ‘Cheer Up (you miserable fu**)’ – very good album
Track 9 – Rammstein ‘Du Hast’. I get the feeling my good friend Spacepig will have something to say here (don’t worry you’ll get used to him – he’s almost like part of the furniture – been with me since the beginning and does love his music)
Track 10 – High Tide ‘Death Warmed Up’

The mixes are posted for one month then deleted and replaced, if you would like some of the older mixes I think that can be arranged. I’m a very lucky Dog – I just provide the content here my sister Liefste zus provides all the technical support and I’m sure she will be able to help you.

One thing – did you see the special playlist on the Black Keys – just discovered this band and they are very very good

  12. CHEEZEPEEZE says

    Hi LD
Rammstein!i should have got that one.If you like krautrock?check out ‘CAN’ Start with the album Tago Mago.
Black Keys- I heard the track ‘Keep Me’ years ago on Bob Harrises radio show.amazing sound from just a duo.Downloaded your mix though. Bound to be good.
Catch up later,I’ve thought of another good band for your BBQ.

  13. Sin again says

Hey Mr Cheezepeeze – great name BTW

Welcome to mftm – I’m Sin Again (the dim one who has no idea who most of the songs are by – but still luvs it here). I reckon u’ll luv it too here only problem will be the amount of dosh you spend on new cd’s, I must have bought around 15 cos Mr LD has recommended or I’ve heard a track on one of the mixes.

    BTW – Dont mention Oasis

  14. Spacepig says

Hi Che (there’s no way I’m writing that lot out, be a rebel instead!).

Thanks for the Can recommendation, but I think you’re only about 25 or 30 years too late with that one. Tago Mago is a good CD right enough, personally I prefer it when they really trip out, Future Days would be my suggestion to kick off with. I seen both Damo Suzuki and Jaki Liebzit a few times, Suzuki being one the greatest nutters around.

When it comes to krautrock I suggest you dig through the archives on here and you will discover more than a passing reference to Faust. I can suggest a few more: Hoelderlin, Space Debris, or if you want to start rocking then try Birth Control. That should get you started, then I’ll dig out a few more. Come over to my sty sometime if you like and I’ll devote a space to the tripped out realm of those nutty Deutsche.

And Mr SA, how have you got off with buying only 15 of Mr D’s suggestions? Reckon I must be nearer 50.

  15. CHEEZEPEEZE says

    Thanks for the welcome guys.
I spend most of the time i’ve got, on Zons music & rock forums.
I will keep in touch though. It’s a great site, & it might prove addictive!

  16. Laughing Dog says

Hi Cheezy – I glad you like my site, tis a labour of love and very rewarding especially when someone new joins my merry band of ………….. (please insert what you feel is applicable)

What is Zons music & rock forums? Just googled it and nothing

  17. CHEEZEPEEZE says

    Hi LD
Merry band of brothers, & sister ?
Zon is just short for Amazon.
Have you had a chance, to check out Chikinki yet?
This may sound THICK! Is there a way of getting your mixes, from my music folder on Windows Media Player, onto iTunes?

  18. Laughing Dog says

Hi Cheezy – I’m no expert but I reckon once you have downloaded the mix you should be able to just click play and the track will open up in whatever music media you have open. You may have to extract but I’ll leave that to LZ to explain more cos she’s good at things like that
