I can remember a time when I would go all goosepimply about a new album – waking at dawn to stand outside my local Woolworths sticky 5 pound note in hand – aaaahhh where have those days gone?
Just bought 4 new albums that have all showed promise that I thought would make me go “mmm I like that” and make me review it for you lovely people. Unfortunately the best I can say is that…….they’re OK!! Nothing more nothing less just OK. There’s one or two good tracks on all 4 albums – in fact 3 songs have made June’s Music Mix but the rest are just plain average – even Paul Weller (sorry LZ)

I think I’m going to get the Paul Weller regardless but must admit he was on some show the other night (Jonathan Ross? Graham Norton? Can’t remember) but I was distinctly underwhelmed by the performance. Still, we’re talking about Mr Paul Weller here!
Am surprised that the new Keane album is on this list, will have a look on Amazon but the cd budget goes on the Weller this month methinks.
Hey Mrs. LZ buy the Paul Weller CD as its good I’m listening to it now. Dont know why Mr. LD doesn’t like as he normally knows his music think this is the first time i’ve disagreed with him about his reviews.
I’m in a dither about this to be honest, can’t decide between Weller, Plumbline and Nibs Van Der Spuy. It might come down to a toss of the coin!
Hi Sinny – Hows Al Khor?
You may be right about Paul Weller – I have listened to the album a few more times today and it is better than I first thought, but not, I believe, a great album probably only for die-hard Weller fans (which I’m not). I still want more Stanley Road and Heavy Soul from this guy – 2 albums that are up there with the best.
But thanks for your post you made me rethink my original opinion but its only gone from a 2 star to a 3 star album in my humble opinion
Ah Mr D, well I remember those days waiting for Woolies to open up, standing there with the fiver in hand (I’m not going to think about how yours got sticky). Those days are long gone and I suppose the modern day equivalent is sitting there with a shaky hand hovering over the mouse.
But what about this lot of new releases. Well, Weller just doesn’t interest me in the slightest. Seen him once and actually did fall asleep despite being surrounded by 60,000 screaming yoofs. While I will occasionally give Eton Rifles a spin, that’s it for me as far as he goes.
MGMT and Keane just don’t interest me at all. Field Music I don’t know, but the Amazon reviews do look mildly interesting, maybe some day when I can’t find anything else.
But – there is light on the horizon, looky here:
