I have been listening the this song for the past 34 minutes as I have several versions in my itunes library ranging from Buckley to Shrek to K. D . Lang and they all have their merits.
Let me stick my neck out here and say my favorite has to be Buckley’s version as it was the first time I’d heard the song and it is just so good.

Just wanted to add to the Hallelujah covers the fact that the musicians on MetaFilter did a Hallelujah Challenge a while back – the results are mixed but there are some gems – I like the Ukele version “Hallelukulelejah” and (don’t laugh) the Hillbillujah version. Great fun.
