I must be honest I didn’t really want to have my song and album of the month by the same artist…………but Porcupine Trees’ latest offering is just too good and needs to be heard to be enjoyed.
According to Steven Wilson, the main man behind Porcupine Tree, ‘Time Flies’ is the centre piece of the album, an optimistic and sentimental song that is simply concerned with the fact that; as you get older time does really appear to fly.
Now, maybe it’s because I have just celebrated my 45th birthday, maybe it’s because I’m feeling a wee bit melancholic, maybe it’s because Summer has passed for another year and the temperature outside is below 35 degrees. Maybe it’s all these things and more – maybe it’s just a great song from a great album that I think you will enjoy….maybe.
The video is special too, with images that are just great and mean something to me – maybe my childhood, maybe my life – but each time I watch it I see something different, I see a different story, a different memory, a different time and place – I see many stories, many tales – I see something I can relate to and enjoy – mmm I hope you enjoy too
I was born in ‘67
The year of Sgt. Pepper
And Are You Experienced?
Into a suburb of heaven
Yeah, it should’ve been forever
It all seems to make so much sense
But after a while
You realize time flies
And the best thing that you can do
Is take whatever comes to you
‘Cause time flies
She said luck is all you make it
You just reach out and take it
Now let’s dance a while
She said nothing ever happens
If you don’t make it happen
And if you can’t laugh then smile
But after a while
You realize time flies
And the best thing that you can do
Is take whatever comes to you
‘Cause time flies
And laughing under summer showers
Is still the way I see you now
How does time break down
With no marker, things slow down.
A conference of the strange
And your family is deranged
I could tell you what I’m thinking
While we sit here drinking
But I’m not sure where to start
You see there’s something wrong here
I’m sorry if I’m not clear,
Can you stop smoking your cigar?
But after a while
You realize time flies
And the best thing that you can do
Is take whatever comes to you
‘Cause time flies
And the coat your wore to Alton Towers
It’s still the way I see you now
