Taking advantage of getting an early worm preview of the music mix, here’s what struck me on listening for the first time.
Hadn’t heard anything by the Crash Test Dummies, Kathleen Edwards, Nitin Sawhney and The Delgados. Am now a fan and have albums by all in my Amazon basket/wishlist.
Old friends (via your recommendations over the years): Starsailor/Cerys Matthews/Jayhawks. Great selection of tracks.
Adele – have been a fan since her first appearance on the Jools Holland show so great to see her included.
Stereophonics (another big fan here, as you know – remember the gig at Cardiff uni?
) and I love that track, especially in this mix.
Hawkwind – not as bad as I’d feared but not my cup o’ tea I’m afraid. I think I got innoculated at an early age when you lot were playing their albums at full blast up in your room!
I like the Music Mix too except for Johnny Cash prefer the original by U2
You have a good choice in music – how do you know all these different bands and artists? There’s a very mixed selection here also how can I download the one for August. I have only found your site in the past few days and missed it
Thanks Liefste zus – comments much appreciated – glad you enjoyed
Hi – where did you get the name Sin Again? Bit weird but good.
Glad you like my Music Mix – I select the tracks simply by what I feel goes well together. From Aynsley Lister to Johnny Cash came from a simple shuffle on my ipod and I just wrote down the tracks as they just sounded so good together.
My choice in music comes from not being blinkered and only listening to one or two genres/bands – I like anything from jazz to classic to rock to rap to soul to whatever makes me go “mmm – I like that” plus I don’t just listen to an album once or twice, I try to give it time, try to remember that someone has made this music, spent a long time writing, recording etc. so it should be treated with a bit of respect – given a bit of time.
Not sure if August’s Music Mix is still available, will consult my blog technician.
Sin again,
I’ve emailed youyou’ll need to leave a comment with a genuine email address if you want to download the August music mix.I am still digesting this mix Happy Hyena, but I must say that your selection of the Stereophinics and Crash Test Dummies does not appeal in the slightest. We may just come to loggerheads over these ones! In all sincerity is there a more irritating song than that banality that is Hmm, hmm, hmm? And on top of that you have included Paul Heaton! Now I have no doubt that he is a nice guy, but many years ago I was rather intimate with a lovely young lady, but she was hooked on The Housemartins and that was enough for me, so that one went nowhere. I hated him ever since.
Neal Casal and Nitin Sawhney are quite good but I will have to explore further. Good mix though, keep it up.
Good comments and a wee bit critical which is fab – I would not expect anything less from you my friend – you are (as I have already learnt) a man with a quality taste in music. When I’m putting together the music mix I really only have one aim – I try to create a collection of songs that I would love to listen to. I have no real agenda when selecting in fact, I think from Aynsley Lister to Johnny Cash just came on my ipod one day as a shuffle, and I thought wow good song these will work well on the mix. I’m also aware that not all visitors to my blog have the varied musical tastes that we do – so I also just try and cater for all – hoping that someone will go “mmm, I like that” and explore further.
I have no doubts though that we will be at loggerheads over some things (in a nice sort of way) that’s why I created the blog and that why your input is most welcomed and appreciated – thank you – now listen to Crash Test Dummies I want to hear you sing “mmm mmm mmm”
Mr LD
Still listening to your mix gotta say it gets better each time I play it not a bad song and they all seem to go together so well
My faves – The Delgrados, Stereophonics, Starsailor and Hawkwind
well done mate
